Eight million metric tons of plastics are dumped or washed into our oceans every year, choking whales, dolphins, sea turtles, birds and other marine life.
Plastic is also a human health threat. It’s everywhere: in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Every year, the average person ingests 74,000 microplastic particles – the equivalent of an entire credit card.
If we don’t put an end to single-use plastic production, by 2050, there may be more plastics in our oceans than fish.
NRDC is working to end plastic pollution, but we need your help. Donate to help us protect the environment in the most effective way possible and to support our campaign to break free from plastic pollution.
