Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a dangerous, highly unstable, and explosive substance. Right now, big polluter New Fortress Energy wants to take advantage of Trump-era rules that allow the transportation of volatile LNG by rail from northeast Pennsylvania to an export facility in Gibbstown, New Jersey on the Delaware River.

While New Fortress Energy stands to make huge profits, this project will:

I am writing to express my disappointment in the Delaware River Basin Commission’s recent decision to allow the extension of Docket No. D-2017-009-2, which allows for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Gibbstown, NJ to continue.

LNG is a dangerous, highly unstable, and explosive substance that can lead to uncontrollable fires so hot they burn people up to a mile away. If the gas industry is allowed to move forward with their dangerous scheme, communities along the densely populated route between Wyalusing, PA and Gibbstown, NJ will be put at risk from explosions and the health of the Delaware River will be threatened with the release of dangerous levels of PCBs.

Additionally, the extraction, transportation, and burning of the gas releases large amounts of methane – a main driver of climate change. Scientists and leading experts all warn that methane emissions MUST be reduced to avert the worst of the climate change impacts.

Please protect our communities and fight the climate crisis by opposing this dangerous scheme to transport explosive LNG from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.
