Help reduce truck emissions

Despite making up only 7% of vehicles on the road, fossil fuel-powered trucks in Illinois are responsible for a majority of the state's dangerous fine particulate pollution (PM2.5) and smog-forming gasses (NOx) from on-road transportation. This means that fossil fuel truck pollution has an outsized impact on Illinois’ air quality.

These pollutants lead to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases—including asthma, lung cancer, heart attacks, and strokes—and can cause premature death. However, the impacts of this pollution are not felt evenly. Due to historical and ongoing discrimination, transportation pollution is overwhelmingly concentrated in low-income communities and communities of color.

The Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) and Heavy-Duty Omnibus (HDO) rules would work together to slash health-harming air pollution from new fossil fuel trucks while increasing the number of clean, zero-emitting trucks manufacturers have to sell in Illinois. These rules will also boost Illinois growing clean transportation economy, supporting in-state investments and job creation.

Quickly transitioning to zero-emission trucks is essential to improving air quality and protecting frontline communities. Send a message to the Governor today.
