I am extremely concerned by a package of backward-looking energy bills introduced by the majority Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The package of 17 bills, introduced by the majority in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, reads like a wish list for the oil, gas, and coal industry. Among other things, they would dramatically ramp up drilling and mining, cut taxes on polluting industries, weaken our bedrock environmental laws that protect communities from toxic pollution, and so much more.

These bad energy bills are out of touch with the reality that oil and gas production is at an all-time high and that is incompatible with a healthy environment. They are meant to turn back the clock towards weaker environmental laws, more unbridled development of the fossil fuels that drive climate change and endanger the health of communities across the country.

This is especially disappointing to see, after the historic climate and clean energy gains in the Inflation Reduction Act, that these bills would seek to maliciously undermine and repeal those programs.

I call on you to reject any short-sighted, dangerous energy bills that would further threaten our climate and undermine clean energy growth.
