Cars are literally driving climate change, not to mention polluting our air and harming our health. Thankfully, New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is taking action to cut carbon emissions from vehicles by moving to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) rule. This will require all new vehicles sold by manufacturers to be zero-emission by 2035.
The benefits of adopting the ACCII rule include:
- A 50% reduction in planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars by 2040.
- Fewer premature deaths, fewer asthma attacks, and fewer missed days of work due to pollution-related health concerns.
- A lower total cost of car ownership (you won’t be held to the wild swings in gas prices!).
- The creation of new jobs manufacturing EVs.
