The Trump administration is pushing to hand the future of California’s coasts to fossil fuel friendly political appointees in Washington. They’ve launched a federal review of California's Coastal Management Program, trying to clear the way for Big Oil and more polluting projects on our coasts.

We already know they have plans to bring back offshore drilling to California, and if we don’t speak now that will be just the first of many destructive projects that threaten our state’s wildlife like sea lions and coastal economy..

The Trump administration is seeking comments on this proposal until August 22. We need Californians to speak up and defend their right to protect their coastline.

I am deeply concerned by any attempt to weaken California's Coastal Management Program.

The program protects our greatest economic, environmental and cultural asset: Our coasts. They are home to one of the highest concentrations of species found anywhere else in the world. They also drive our economy with industries like tourism, recreation, and fishing that generate over $43.5 billion a year and support more than 555,000 jobs.

California’s coastal program has played a central role in preserving the character, accessibility, and long-term health of the state’s shoreline. Its commitment to careful, forward-looking stewardship has helped ensure that the coast continues to serve residents, visitors, ecosystems, and coastal economies alike.
 
As a Californian, I know our water, beaches, and coastal communities are irreplaceable. That’s why we’ve repeatedly rejected environmentally-destructive projects. I fully support our state’s Coastal Management Program and the protections it provides.
