Demand DTE Energy transition to clean energy, not continue its reliance on dirty fossil fuels!

The climate crisis is here. Michigan needs to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, not increase our dependence on fossil fuels from out of state.

We can’t let DTE Energy continue to delay the transition to clean energy. Tell DTE that Michigan needs a more sustainable and cost-effective plan that retires one of the country’s largest coal plants and maximizes the use of renewable energy to power our state.

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) must demand DTE stop burning coal and invest in clean energy!

I’m writing with great concern regarding DTE Energy’s proposed Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) detailing how they will go about generating and supplying energy to Michiganders across the state. DTE’s proposed plan does not come close to matching the need to further Michigan’s transition to renewable energy demanded by the climate crisis.

Recent outages and high energy prices have demonstrated that the current grid is unreliable, unaffordable, and insufficient when it comes to serving the needs of customers.

DTE must act boldly to transition to clean energy and bring affordable energy to all Michiganders by proposing an ambitious plan that sets Michigan on a path towards a carbon-free future.

I urge the MPSC to reject DTE’s current proposal and ask that DTE consider a plan that includes:

• Full retirement of the Monroe coal plant by 2032.
• A just and transparent transition for workers and communities impacted by coal plant retirements.
• Increased investments in clean energy with at least 800 megawatts of solar power every year until 2034
• Annual energy efficiency savings of at least 2.25%.
• Targeted resources to the customers who are struggling to pay their bills.

The climate crisis is here and its crucial that DTE accelerate the transition to renewable energy, not increase our dependence on fossil fuels.
