The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has officially suspended a rule issued under the Trump administration that allowed the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by rail. This means New Fortress Energy’s plan to have two 100-car trains transporting this highly explosive substance daily along a densely populated 200-mile route in the northeast is foiled… at least for now.

Now, we need your help to overcome the influence of Big Oil and Gas to ensure that this new rule bans the transportation of LNG by rail – with zero exceptions.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) officially suspended a rule issued under the Trump administration that allowed the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by rail! This means New Fortress Energy’s plan to have two 100-car trains transporting this highly explosive substance daily along a densely populated 200-mile route in the northeast is foiled… at least for now.

This rule suspension is only temporary. If DOT doesn’t pass a new rule by June 2025, then the old rule allowing LNG by rail is reinstated. And we need to make sure any new rule DOT issues will ban LNG by rail with zero exceptions.

Oil and gas companies have a long history of pouring a lot of resources into protecting their profits and will likely lobby for workarounds in the final rule – even if it means putting communities like yours in danger.

Thank you for suspending the rule that allowed for the transportation of LNG by rail! This is a huge step towards protecting people from dangerous substances traveling by rail through our communities.

In particular, suspending this rule protects more than 2 million people in the densely populated northeast, where the gas industry is proposing a 200-mile route to transport LNG from a liquefying plant in Wyalusing, PA to an export terminal in Gibbstown, NJ.

As DOT writes and refines a new rule, I urge you to implement a complete and total ban on the transportation of LNG by rail. LNG is a dangerous, highly unstable, and explosive substance that can lead to uncontrollable fires so hot they burn people up to a mile away. There’s a reason it was banned before the Trump administration rolled it back: It’s just too dangerous and the risks are too high.

We need to look no further than the derailment in East Palestine, Ohio as an example. If that train had been carrying LNG, the tragedy would have been even more severe.

Please ban LNG by rail without any exceptions to protect our communities, not the profits of the gas industry.
