I’m writing you today to urge you to take 3 simple steps to improve the lives of all your constituents across the state by embracing and enacting transportation reforms that are within easy, bipartisan reach and would cost nothing to taxpayers.

It’s up to the governor to direct the Department of Transportation how to allocate its funding, and I urge you to direct the agency to do the following:

- Prioritize and fund projects that reduce car emissions – the number one contributor to harmful greenhouse gases – by investing in the deployment of electric vehicles and building out charging infrastructure.

- Increase equal and affordable access to alternate forms of transportation statewide, not just in densely populated areas. This will help reduce vehicle emissions, which endanger public health and disproportionately impact vulnerable communities.

- Support community design policies that prioritize pedestrian and bike safety, and increase the integration of public transportation into our roadways, rather than continuing to design our communities with just cars in mind.

Every person in our state deserves to be able to get from point A to point B without worrying about the cost or safety of getting there. I’m counting on you to make sure that happens – and to put these reforms into motion within the next year.
