Implementation of the Clean Energy Future and Filter First laws

The laws you signed last year, committing Michigan to achieving 100% clean energy by 2040 and ensuring water filters in schools and childcare centers to protect children from lead exposure, are monumental steps toward a cleaner and healthier future. I implore you to request $50 million to implement Filter First and $6 million to provide the Michigan Public Service Commission with the staffing it needs to effectively implement additional clean energy and efficiency work.

Investment in Energy-Efficient Housing

Michigan's homes and buildings contribute significantly to our state's greenhouse gas emissions. To address this, I urge you to allocate $100 million for a whole home retrofit program aimed at making efficiency improvements in Michigan's buildings. This not only helps in reducing emissions but also makes housing more affordable for residents.

Expanding Clean Transportation Choices

I encourage you to redirect Michigan's transportation investments towards sustainable solutions, including electric vehicles, public transportation, and pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure. This shift will contribute significantly to reducing vehicle pollution and its adverse effects on our climate and health, and will make our state more attractive to young people.

Governor Whitmer, your leadership in advancing clean energy legislation is appreciated, and I believe that continuing to prioritize these areas in the budget will not only solidify Michigan's position as a national leader on climate and sustainability, but will make our state a more attractive, affordable place to live.
