Thank the Biden administration for pausing LNG exports and urge them to take the next step to phase out dirty fuels.
The Biden administration recently hit pause on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports while it decides whether it’s in the public interest to permit massive new projects that would expand future exports of LNG.
The administration’s decision is a big win and a critical first step toward our ultimate goal of phasing out LNG — and all dirty fossil fuels that are driving the climate crisis and threatening our health.
LNG is a dangerous substance composed primarily of methane – a greenhouse gas that is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. And the United States is the world’s largest exporter of this climate-destroying energy source.
Pausing new LNG construction is the right call. We won’t advance environmental justice by making low-income communities and people of color bear the brunt of fossil fuel hazard and harm. We won’t help our families by forcing them to bear the risks of domestic gas production, and then compete with customers abroad for the fuel.
Tell the Biden administration you support the pause on LNG, and you’re counting on them to continue their progress in phasing out dirty fuels and combating the climate crisis.
