After devastating communities in the Southeastern United States, the dirty wood pellet biomass industry is now trying to make its way into California with two proposed industrial-scale wood pellet production facilities – one in the north and another in the Central Sierra Nevada Mountain range.
Biomass involves cutting down carbon-capturing forests, processing them into wood pellets, and shipping them overseas to be burned as fuel. The proposed biomass facilities will drive more climate-warming emissions, increase the risk of health problems like asthma, heart disease, and lung damage to communities already disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards, and threaten the habitat of gray wolves, Sierra Nevada red foxes, great gray owls, and other imperiled wildlife.
What’s more, the company behind these facilities, Golden State Natural Resources (GSNR), is attempting to promote these destructive operations as a climate solution.
California officials are inviting public comments on this disastrous proposal – make your voice heard now to stop this dangerous wood pellet biomass project and defend our health and environment.
