There is no safe level of lead. And yet, tens of millions of people nationwide receive their drinking water from a lead pipe.

Lead harms the developing brain, making it especially dangerous for children and pregnant people. It can also cause fatal heart disease in adults.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established a strong rule requiring that virtually every lead pipe will be replaced in 10 years. It is a critical step for protecting our kids and families from lead-contaminated drinking water.

But the Trump EPA has not committed to defending that new rule to help get lead out of drinking water — and the deadline for them to do so is rapidly approaching. Water utilities are challenging the rule in court so it’s urgent that the EPA stand up for eliminating lead water pipes and addressing this urgent public health issue.
