They help to preserve functioning, intact ecosystems on which all life — including people and our health — depends.

I am extremely frustrated by the continuing attacks on the Endangered Species Act through standalone policy proposals and poison pill riders that aim to gut protections for vulnerable species.

These assaults come on the heels of numerous attempts to block or strip protections from individual species and to undermine the Endangered Species Act in its entirety through harmful amendments to must-pass legislation and other individual bills. These persistent efforts threaten to gut protections for hundreds of our most imperiled wildlife species.

As the world faces twin climate and biodiversity crises, these protections — and the Endangered Species Act — have never been more essential. They help to preserve functioning, intact ecosystems on which all life — including people and our health — depends.

I strongly urge you to reject any proposals that would weaken the Endangered Species Act, hamstring the conservation of our most imperiled species and their habitats, and take away vital resources needed for their recovery.
