Just last month, a massive oil rig — contracted by ConocoPhillips — collapsed in the Arctic, spilling thousands of gallons of oil and showing how unsafe it is to drill for oil in such harsh conditions.

And yet, the Trump administration will stop at nothing to advance their drill, baby, drill agenda in the Arctic while our environment, wildlife, and communities pay the price for generations to come.

The administration is accepting public comments on its disastrous drilling plan but only until March 5: Tell them no Arctic Refuge lands should be drilled.

I am deeply troubled by your plan to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s 1.56-million-acre Coastal Plain to reckless oil and gas drilling, a move that would devastate one of the world’s last truly wild places and worsen climate change in a region that is warming more than four times faster than the rest of the world.
 
Your proposal asks which lands in the Refuge should be destroyed for drilling. The answer is none.
 
This plan doesn’t make economic sense. Even banks and insurers aren’t backing oil operations in this fragile, remote environment. Lease sales are flopping in the region, which will leave taxpayers holding the bag.

The recent collapse of a massive oil rig, contracted by ConocoPhillips, that spilled thousands of gallons of oil in the Arctic shows how unsafe it is to drill for oil in such harsh conditions.

The Arctic Refuge is home to birthing caribou and migratory birds and provides a key denning ground for America’s polar bears. The Gwich’in people rely on lands in the Arctic Refuge for their livelihoods. Oil operations would destroy this sacred landscape and all who rely on it.
