Californians are facing increasingly dangerous threats from climate change and pollution, including destructive wildfires, severe droughts, rising sea levels, and more.

At the same time, the Trump administration is rolling back hard-won federal environmental protections that threaten California’s climate progress, attacking our clean car standards, promoting more fossil fuel production, and cutting clean energy incentives that help families save money.

Subject Support critical climate and environment bills for Californians

I’m writing to urge you to support the following bills that will protect public health, clean up our air and water, and move us away from fossil fuels:

• Home Energy Choice Act (AB 2313 - Asm. Berman) would give Californians the option to switch to clean electricity and reduce costs for all utility customers
• Nitrogen Pollution Reduction Act (AB 2447 - Asm. Bauer-Kahan) would help reduce the over application of nitrogen fertilizer that results in water and air pollution
• AB 1777 (Asm. Garcia) would allow California officials to establish indirect source rules to help to improve the state’s air quality and promote clean vehicles. 
• Right to Clean Water Act (SB 601 - Sen. Allen) would reinstate Clean Water Act protections for seasonal streams and wetlands and protect the state against future rollbacks
• SB 1213 (Sen. Reyes) would address the lack of price transparency in California’s medium- and heavy-duty vehicle market

Additionally, the legislature must uphold its commitment to clean up the most harmful provisions in the SB 131 legislation passed last summer. We need to clean up provisions to restore protections for communities and ensure tribes are consulted about development that could impact them.

California is already facing growing impacts of climate change and pollution on our communities — from wildfire smoke and unsafe air to rising energy costs, toxic drinking water, and pollution harming our oceans and wildlife. These bills are critical to protect our communities and deliver a cleaner future for our state.
