The New York State Assembly has a small window to secure a historic win for the health of our state — but it’s closing quickly.

There are four state bills being considered in the Assembly that will help to keep PFAS, lead, and microplastics out of our homes, and communities. We only have until June 4 to pass this critical legislation.

If our lawmakers continue to put off voting, they will effectively kill this legislation and give a big win to industries who’d rather profit than keep New Yorkers safe.

Every year that the Assembly delays passing these bills seriously impacts our health, our environment, and our wallets: Families will face more health issues and rising medical bills and communities will have to manage rising costs to clean up their drinking water.

Assemblymembers can’t wait another year to pass this life-saving legislation — which is why we need your help. Activists like you have helped us pass legislation to get toxic chemicals out of clothing, menstrual products, and fire fighting foam. Let’s secure another win.

The end of the session is fast approaching, and I urge you to swiftly pass four bills to keep New Yorkers safe from toxic exposures:

• A.7738A - A bill which phases out intentionally added PFAS found in common household products like cookware, dental floss, and home textiles.
• A.2054B - The Beauty Justice Act which phases out PFAS and other dangerous chemicals from cosmetics and personal care products.
• A.7878 - The Lead Pipe Replacement Act which would safely and affordably protect New York families from the biggest source of lead in their drinking water.
• A.1749 - The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act which improves recycling infrastructure, reduces plastic packaging, and gets rid of the worst health-harming chemicals found in plastic packaging.

We can’t afford to wait to address the impacts of PFAS, microplastics, and lead on our health. If you don’t pass these bills this year, families will face more health issues and rising medical bills; and communities will have to manage rising costs to clean up their drinking water.
