Fossil fuel companies petitioned the Interior Department to cede tens of million more acres of the pristine Western Arctic in the interests of drilling — and in less than three days, the Trump administration agreed.
If this hasty, short-sighted plan is finalized, fossil fuel companies will not be subject to any real oversight in the Western Arctic. No standard permitting process. No clean up standards.
The Trump administration is seeking public comments about this disastrous proposal until July 6.
Grizzly and polar bears, caribou, rare birds, and other wildlife rely on Western Arctic lands and waters for survival. Indigenous communities depend on the region’s natural resources to protect their livelihoods and cultural traditions. And more oil drilling in the Arctic will only lock us into more fossil fuel addiction in a region that is warming more than four times faster than the rest of the world — stopping drilling here is a key step to avert climate catastrophe.
We need your voice NOW: Submit a public comment opposing the Trump administration’s devastating plan to advance Western Arctic drilling.
