Tell the EPA: Protect Us From Methane Leaks

Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants to gut the standards that require oil and gas companies to find and fix methane leaks caused by drilling operations. Methane is the second-largest contributor to climate change, and these leaks pump cancer-causing, smog-forming pollutants into nearby communities.

Tell Trump’s EPA: Protect us from methane leaks

Help stop Trump’s EPA from letting oil and gas companies leak dangerous methane.

Methane gas flare

Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants to gut the standards that require oil and gas companies to find and fix methane leaks caused by their drilling operations.

Methane is 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide — and the second-largest contributor to climate change. And the same leaks pump cancer-causing, smog-forming pollutants straight into the air of communities living next to oil and gas sites.

Most oil and gas companies already check for leaks. This proposal is a free pass for the worst polluters who won’t. The EPA’s reckless plan would:

  • Hand a loophole to the dirtiest well sites, which supply less than 5% of the nation’s oil and gas but cause more than half of the industry’s methane pollution
  • Kill the EPA’s super emitter program, which catches massive leaks so they get fixed
  • Let companies flare more, burning off excess gas and fouling the air nearby communities breathe

Zeldin didn’t at first announce this to the public. He announced it to a room full of oil and gas executives. Now it’s our turn to be heard.
