We are living through an unprecedented biodiversity crisis, with scientists warning that one million plant and animal species are at risk of extinction — many within the next few decades.

Habitat loss, direct exploitation of land for development, deforestation, and climate change are just some of the activities driving this impending species extinction.

I'm joining with NRDC as we call on you and other world leaders to halt human-caused wildlife and species extinction.

We are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis and cannot afford to lose the 1 million plant and wildlife species that scientists project will disappear if we do not act. Industrial agriculture, climate change, fossil fuel development, and deforestation driven by human activities are leading causes of this crisis.

It's our responsibility to take bold, urgent action to reduce destructive human activity and save wildlife species from extinction. If we're going to reverse course, then we need every leader to:

1.	Commit to halting human-caused species extinction starting in 2022 
2.	Set a target of ensuring no species is threatened by 2030
3.	Commit to protecting 30 percent of our lands, inland waters, and oceans by 2030, preserving the natural ecosystems we all depend on

Together, we can protect species and wildlife habitat, mitigate climate change, and help secure a safe and healthy future for our planet.
