Tell Governor Murphy: We don’t want climate-busting concrete in New Jersey!

Concrete is used to make our buildings, roads, bridges, and so much more. But concrete requires cement – and the cement industry accounts for over 7 percent of GLOBAL carbon dioxide emissions.

The New Jersey State Legislature passed S287 in December, which aims to make cement manufacturing more sustainable and climate-friendly. And the clock is ticking for Governor Murphy to make it New Jersey law.

As a resident of New Jersey, I urge you to fight climate change and protect communities from carbon pollution by signing the Low Embodied Carbon Concrete Leadership Act (S287).

Modern life depends on concrete. It’s used to make our buildings, roads, bridges, and so much more. But concrete requires cement, and the cement used in New Jersey's concrete manufacturing is extremely carbon intensive. Not to mention, it can threaten our air, soil, and waterways with toxic pollution.

New York already passed their own version of this bill – but New Jersey’s would be even more robust. S287 will:
- Reward concrete manufacturers for their innovation in creating lower carbon concrete and for adopting new technologies.
- Reduce the amount of cement (which accounts for 90% of the carbon emissions in concrete) used in construction.
- Allow the state to consider concrete manufacturers whose concrete is lower carbon, even if it costs a bit more.

Please sign S287 before the clock runs out on January 30th.
