No oil and gas drilling off U.S. coasts

The Trump administration announced a dangerous proposal to expand oil and gas drilling across over a billion acres of U.S. waters off the coast of California, Florida, Alaska, and the Gulf. But before they can take another step, they must collect public comments — so we need your help. Tell the Trump administration not to drill off our coasts.

Tell the Trump administration’s Interior Department not to open our waters to offshore drilling.

Offshore oil rigs in Cook Inlet, Alaska.

The Trump administration announced a dangerous proposal to expand oil and gas drilling across over a billion acres of U.S. waters off the coast of California, Florida, Alaska, and the Gulf.

That’s in addition to the 36 new lease sales Congress mandated as part of last summer’s budget bill. NRDC and our partners have already filed suit in federal court challenging the first of those scheduled lease sales, and earlier this year, we sued the administration over an executive order that would illegally open more than 625 million acres of U.S. waters to offshore oil and gas drilling.

Once the administration finalizes this dangerous drilling plan, NRDC will use every appropriate tool to defend our offshore waters. Our lawyers stand ready.

Before the administration can take another step, they must collect public comments on this disastrous offshore leasing plan. The U.S. already has more than enough energy to meet demand: Tell the Trump administration that you stand with thousands of Americans across the country in opposition to more drilling off our coasts.

Offshore oil and gas development threatens endangered whales like beluga whales in Alaska’s Cook Inlet and Rice’s whales in the Gulf, while generating toxic air pollution that harms our health and drives more climate change-fueled extreme weather events. And coastal communities and economies are too valuable to put at risk of oil spills and other offshore drilling impacts.

Don’t wait: Submit your public comment opposing the Trump administration’s plan to open up our waters to oil and gas drilling.
