Tell President Biden and key environmental cabinet officials to keep doing more to fight the climate crisis.
This summer, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 —the most sweeping climate and clean energy legislation in history. The law will expand clean energy and electric vehicles, clean up dirty power plants, create thousands of jobs, protect public health, invest in communities, and more.
This landmark law is reason to celebrate, but it also includes some giveaways to the fossil fuel industry that will harm low-income communities and people of color. And while it has the potential to cut U.S. greenhouse gas pollution by a whopping 40% by 2030, it doesn’t quite get us to our nation’s goal of the 50-52% cut we need to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
With the urgency of the climate crisis -- record heat, fires, and floods around the world were the story of the summer – and communities of color continuing to disproportionately bear the brunt of worsening climate impacts, it’s clear that more still needs to be done.
Here’s what the Biden administration must do next in our climate fight:
• Ensure agencies implement the climate law as aggressively as possible.
• Develop new plans to cut climate pollution from our cars, trucks, and dirty power plants; reduce climate-busting methane pollution; enact stronger energy efficiency standards; protect carbon-absorbing forests, and more.
• Implement investments in last year’s bipartisan infrastructure law in ways that further cut our carbon footprint and make our communities and infrastructure more climate resilient.
• Re-assert U.S. international leadership on climate action by supporting other countries in rapidly cutting their own pollution and for adapting to the worsening climate crisis.
Send a message to President Biden and key environmental cabinet officials urging them to stand strong against fossil fuel industry pressure and do even more to on clean energy and climate action.
